Madeira fuel prices, and the order that sets them

The Region sets a maximum retail price for fuel every week and publishes it in its own gazette. These are those ceilings: a filling station in Madeira may charge less than this, and several do, but none may charge more.

The cheap one is not for your car

Gasóleo colorido e marcado — dyed and marked diesel — is taxed differently because it is meant for agriculture, fishing and machinery. It is listed here because visitors see the low number on a pump and ask what it is. Putting it in a road vehicle is an offence, and the dye is what the inspection looks for.

These are ceilings, not averages

Nobody surveys the forecourts to produce these numbers. They are the maximum the law allows, homologated by the Region once a week and in force from a stated date until the next order replaces them. That makes them a harder promise than a scraped average: what you see here is the most you can be asked to pay, whatever the sign at the roadside says.

The weekly homologation is required by Portaria n.º 25/2022, de 26 de janeiro, artigo 3.º, which is what obliges the Region to publish a maximum at all.

One document, published by the Region, signed by two secretaries and printed in the official gazette. The figures above were read from it and nothing else.
