Plaza Madeira

The centre on Rua Dr. Brito Câmara traded as La Vie, and before that as Dolce Vita. One building, three names, two of them still circulating — and one old address that now serves an online casino.

What it is, and where

Downtown, beside the Teatro Municipal, and the only one you can reach on foot from the cruise berth. Smaller than the other two and more useful for it: a supermarket, a gym and a food court in the middle of town rather than a trip out.

The names it used to trade under

It has also traded as La Vie Funchal, Dolce Vita Funchal. Those names are still in wide circulation, and every list that counts them as separate centres is counting one building more than once.

In the town centre — most Funchal routes stop within two streets, and it is an easy walk from the harbour.
