Madeira to and from the Azores

Start with FNC ↔ PDL in the Azores Airlines booking engine. Madeira Airport currently lists Ponta Delgada as a destination, but that is not a promise that a direct flight operates on every date.

The low-stress booking order

Use this order in either direction.

  1. Search the return first, including the exact airport and date you need.
  2. Prefer one booking for connecting flights. If you buy separate tickets, assume you may have to collect bags, check in again and solve a missed onward flight yourself.
  3. Leave a transfer buffer you can live with if the first flight moves. Do not build the trip around the shortest result a search engine offers.
  4. If the appointment cannot move, compare travelling the day before with the cost and stress of missing it.

FNC ↔ PDL

Madeira ↔ Azores

Start with FNC ↔ PDL in the Azores Airlines booking engine. Madeira Airport currently lists Ponta Delgada as a destination, but that is not a promise that a direct flight operates on every date.

Direct availability is date-dependent. Read the result itinerary before paying: a result between two cities can still contain a connection.

From Madeira to the Azores

Search Funchal (FNC) to Ponta Delgada (PDL) as a return trip first. If São Miguel is not your final island, search the whole journey to the final airport on one booking and inspect where the connection happens.

From the Azores to Madeira

Search the PDL to FNC return before fixing accommodation or inter-island travel. If you begin on another Azores island, make sure that leg reaches the Madeira flight with a buffer and check whether it is on the same ticket.

For another Azores island

Do not assume a Funchal search result is direct because the destination is shown. Open the itinerary, note every airport, and keep inter-island ferry or flight changes separate from the Madeira leg in your plan.

If the flight changes

Check Azores Airlines flight status and your booking first, then compare the Madeira Airport board. Contact the airline that issued the ticket for rebooking; an airport board can confirm movement but cannot change your journey.
